I am starting to pick the Techsperts for next year. I have put out a call to all interested individuals. Within "minutes" of putting out the note, I had 4 students in the LC telling me they were interested. I am making a list and will probably have the next year's Techsperts in place by the end of the semester. I will have 4 students per hour to "work" in the LC doing iPad "stuff", digital exploration, projects for the book fair to include decorating, advertising and more, and whatever each day holds for us. I love the enthusiasm of the students who love reading and now want to spend an hour of their day making our space the best! If you think your students would be interested and they are a going into 8th grade next year, please have them stop by and see me before the end of the semester.
The Book Fair Crew is working hard to get the decorating started for our "A Beautiful Monstrosity: There's A Story Behind Every Door" Book Fair. We are turning the Learning Commons into the Monster Inc. Factory. We are creating doors, characters, and more. The Techsperts are creating advertisements for the fair. The book talk packet has just arrived and will be going out for teachers to use to promote reading and the fair. These book fairs are a lot of work, but well worth the effort when I hear kids say it is the best they have ever seen. New students and 6th graders who have never experienced a fair like this get very excited to see how it all comes together. Soon, the decorations will start really taking over the space and students will stop by daily just to see how it has changed. I love the enthusiasm this creates for the fair and in reading. Our fair is not until December, but we will have something going almost every day before then! Stop by and see us to learn more about what is going on and what you can do to participate!
It is so hard for me to believe that the first quarter is almost over! The Techsperts have been working hard. The Techsperts have been dealing with iPad issues, but we try not to let that encompass our whole day. They have a lot of different things going including blogging, app research, presentations, and of course, book fair. "A Beautiful Monstrosity: There's A Story Behind Every Door" decorating has now begun. We are still accepting ideas and suggestions to make this the best book fair yet, so if you want to contribute, please see a Techspert or stop by the LC.
I am working to make the Learning Commons a better space. My goal is to make it a place where everyone wants to come to collaborate, read, research and more. I am also working on making the eBook system more available and increasing the number of titles available. I am working to make it comfortable, inviting and user-friendly. I am conducting surveys on Edmodo, so if you want some input, please visit my group. I will be putting out the results from the first survey soon.
